What Are Psoriasis and
Eczema? Psoriasis is a non-contagious chronic skin disorder
characterized by abnormal cell growth. Normal skin cells mature
in 28 to 30 days, but with psoriasis, cells move from formation to
the top of the skin in three to four days. The extra cells produced
heap up to form elevated red skin & white, scaly
lesions. Eczema is a more superficial inflammation, mainly of
outer skin layers. However, many symptoms appear similar to
psoriasis, such as red rash, itching and scaling.
Types Of
Treatment Since there is no cure for psoriasis or eczema, the
goal in treatment is to ease discomfort, reduce inflamation and slow
the rapid psoriasis cell division. Many treatments exist such as
cortisone, steroids, but they must be prescribed by a doctor. A very
effective over-the-counter solution is coal tar, which has been used
for more than 100 years to treat psoriasis.
